India’s Air-Conditioning and Climate Change Quandary

Writing for the New York Times, Lab co-director Michael Greenstone bolsters the case for a landmark agreement reached in Kigali, Rwanda, on limiting hydrofluorocarbons used in, among other things, air-conditioners and refrigerators. Looking to the future of global climate policy, Greenstone writes it is critical to keep an eye on India, which is the world’s third-largest emitter of all greenhouse gases, after China and the United States, and is projected to have the highest rate of greenhouse gas emissions growth over the remainder of the century.
